Class Descriptions

Show classes for:
Ballet I

Beginner/Intermediate Ballet class for students in 1st through 4th grade.  Students will learn terminology and movements, and how to execute them properly in combinations in order to gain muscle, advance skill and prevent injury.  Students will also learn ballet class etiquette, parts of the body and how ballet is the foundation for most dance forms.

Hip Hop I

Beginner/Intermediate Hip Hop class for students in 1st through 3rd grade.  This class is designed to improve fitness and increase knowledge in this style of dance.  Students specifically gain knowledge of the various hip hop styles, body movements, and terminology and are challenged with choreography.

Hip Hop II

Beginner/Intermediate Hip Hop class for students in 4th through 6th grade.  This class is designed to improve fitness and increase knowledge in this style of dance.  Students specifically gain knowledge of the various hip hop styles, body movements, and terminology and are challenged with choreography. 

Jazz/Tap I

Beginner/Intermediate Jazz  and Tap class for students in 1st through 3rd grade.  This class is designed to teach jazz and tap movements, along with development of dance terminology.

Jazz/Tap II

Beginner/Intermediate Jazz  and Tap class for students in 4th through 6th grade.  This class is designed to teach jazz and tap movements, along with development of dance terminology.

Performance Dance Company

This class is for students in 4th through 6th grade. Students work with various choreographers, diverse types of instruction, and different dance styles to become versatile dancers.  They make great friends in a positive and encouraging atmosphere.  Students advance faster due to more focused training and gain more confidence. *Teacher approval required prior to registration. 

Performance Dance Company Elite

This class is for students in 6th through 9th grade and meets twice a week.  Students work with various choreographers, diverse types of instruction, and different dance styles to become versatile dancers.  They make great friends in a positive and encouraging atmosphere.  Students advance faster due to more focused training and gain more confidence. *Teacher approval required prior to registration. 

Acting Fundamentals I

This class is open to students in 1st through 5th grade. Students will strengthen their acting muscles and theatre mind-set through the use of method-based acting exercises, teacher and students lead discussions, and research-based activities.  Scene and monologue work will be a large part of the class focus.  This is class is not intended to be a performance-based class, but rather a class that develops skills students will utilize in their performance classes. The class will culminate with parents being invited to a final rehearsal/show of scenes and monologues. *It is also one of the required class options for our Main Stage Jr. Production participants.

This class open to students in 1st through 5th grade. It is a great blend of performance and exploration centered around the exciting world of musical theatre.  Students will get to flex their acting and singing muscles all while taking on challenging scenes from some of the most popular and beloved musical shows. Monologue and solo work will be a large component of this class, as well as helping students find a better understanding of musical theatre structure and audition techniques. This a great class for those interested in giving our theatre program a try.  *It is also one of the required class options for our Main Stage Jr. Production participants. 

Acting for Musical Theatre II

This class open to students in 6th through 12th grade. It is a great blend of performance and exploration centered around the exciting world of musical theatre.  Students will get to flex their acting and singing muscles all while taking on challenging scenes from some of the most popular and beloved musical shows. Monologue and solo work will be a large component of this class, as well as helping students find a better understanding of musical theatre structure and audition techniques. This a great class for those interested in giving our theatre program a try.  *It is also one of the required class options for our Main Stage Production participants. 

Acting Sketchy

This class is for students in 3rd through 8th grade. Students will write, direct and perform their very own comedy sketch show! Parents will be invited to attend a full-length performance in our Black Box Theatre space at the end of the semester. We know your kids are funny, now it's time to let them show off!

Main Stage Jr. Production

This class will solely focus on the Fall semester's Main Stage Jr. Production and is open to students in 1st through 5th grade. All students in this class are required to enroll in either Acting Fundamentals I or Acting for Musical Theatre I (at no additional tuition cost). Students will rehearse and craft the show in a semi-professional atmosphere, while learning the importance of ensemble, responsibility, professionalism, and community as it relates to all areas of theatre.  Students are required to attend all rehearsals including tech week and shows.  Students and parents will sign a contract committing fully to the class once casting is set.  Please note this class meets twice a week on Mondays and Wednesdays from 3:30-4:30pm. 

Main Stage Production

This class will solely focus on the Fall semester's Main Stage Production and is open to students in 6th through 8th grade. All students in this class are required to enroll in either the Acting Fundamentals II or Acting for Musical Theatre II (at no additional tuition cost). Students will rehearse and craft the show in a semi-professional atmosphere, while learning the importance of ensemble, responsibility, professionalism, and community as it relates to all areas of theatre. Students are required to attend all rehearsals including tech week and shows. Students and parents will sign a contract committing fully to the class once casting is set. Please note this class meets on Mondays and Wednesdays 4:45-6:00pm, and select Fridays 5:00-6:00pm. 

Tampa Young Performer's Ensemble

This class is open to students in 9th through 12th grade. This class will focus on crafting the perfect audition, honing performance skills through in-depth scene work and rehearsing a full-length play. Students will receive instruction in all areas of theatre production, have opportunities to try their hand at directing, and even help with our Main Stage Productions. The Tampa Young Performer's Ensemble will culminate iwth a live performance of a full-length play in our Black Box space. Students will sign a contract committing fully to the class once casting is set.

Frozen II (1st-4th grade) 6/8-6/12

Ready to go "Into the Unknown"? We're bringing the magic of Frozen II to STCFTA this summer with this brand new camp! Your camper will have the chance to explore the songs of the newest hit movie including "Show Yourself", "Some Things Never Change", and more! Singing and movement-driven, this camp is sure to warm even the coldest hearts.

Zombies (1st-4th grade) 6/22-6/26

It's Zoms versus Poms during this week of camp! The zombies and cheerleaders of Seabrook will invade STCFTA and bring along their super-cool dance moves to teach campers of all levels of experience. Your camper will be immersed in the world of Disney's Zombies, learning songs such as "BAMM" from the first movie, and "We Got This" from the second! Think you've got what it takes to get fired up? Join us for Zombies week!

With chocolate rivers and Oompa Loompas galore, this camp is sure to be the perfect place for your camper to experience pure imagination!

Alternative Popstar (1st-4th Grade) 7/6-7/10

We get it. Not every kid  is a fan of the same bubblegum pop the radio plays. If only there was a camp for the kid who listens to the music the radio doesn't play as often. Now there is with our Alternative Popstar camp! Featuring songs from bands and artists like Twenty One Pilots, Billie Eilish, and Imagine Dragons, your camper is sure to have a blast singing, dancing, and rocking out to the songs they love to listen to!

High School Musical (1st-4th grade) 7/13-7/17

Wildcats everywhere, wave your hands up in the air! It's time to head back to East High for this singing and dancing intensive camp. Campers will have the opportunity to learn dance combinations and sing along to their favorite songs from the film High School Musical, including "We're All in This Together" and "Get'cha Head in the Game". All levels of experience are welcome for this camp that is fit for an East High Wildcat in training!

High School Musical (5th-8th grade) 7/13-7/17

Wildcats everywhere, wave your hands up in the air! It's time to head back to East High for this singing and dancing intensive camp. Campers will have the opportunity to learn dance combinations and sing along to their favorite songs from the film High School Musical, including "We're All in This Together" and "Get'cha Head in the Game". All levels of experience are welcome for this camp that is fit for an East High Wildcat in training!

Summer Night Live (1st-4th Grade) 7/20-7/24

Seeking all the class clowns and big personalities we can! This is SUMMER CAMP LIVE! Modeled after shows like Saturday Night Live, this camp seeks to bring students together who love being funny and having fun! Over the course of the week, students will help write, direct, and star in a brand new sketch comedy show! Complete with improv games and original song parodies, this is the perfect place for the goofball in your family to work together with new friends and new stories!

Summer Night Live (5th-8th Grade) 7/20-7/24

A new adaptation set to the music of Disney Channel's Teen Beach Movie, of course! This week, students will dive into summer fun through singing, dancing, and acting. Will will explore songs such as "Surf Crazy" and "Crusin' for a Bruisin" through a story that's reminiscent of a campy 60's beach party! Get your sea legs ready, this week of camp we are hitting the beach!

Kids Beach Movie (5th-8th grade) 8/10-8/14

Campers will explore select songs from Mamma Mia!, Newsies, and Hamiliton, combining musical harmonies and dance moves that everyone can learn! Join in the fun during STCFTA's Musical Cabaret!

Acting Fundamentals: Scene Study

This virtual class is for students in 6th through 12th grade. This is the virtual equivalent of our classic acting class. This class focuses on analyzing the text of a play, exploring character choices and gaining the skills necessary for being an excellent scene partner.  Students will be assigned scenes from published plays, which they will rehearse and perform. The class will culminate in a live zoom performance and video recording to share with family and friends. 

Acting for Musical Theatre: Modern Musicals

This virtual class is for students in 6th through 12th grade. This is the virtual equivalent of our classic musical theatre class. In this class, students will be assigned songs from popular modern musicals from new shows and modern classics like Hamilton, Be More Chill and Waitress. Students will discover the different types of songs, their functions in moving the plot of a show forward and how to approach a song as part of the dialogue of the play.  They will rehearse and perform their songs, using the skills they have acquired. The class will culminate in a live zoom performance and video recording to share with family and friends. 

Acting Up Club Presents: Annie Jr.

This virtual class is for students in 1st through 5th grade.  Students will rehearse and perform a mini-musical! Students will learn how to audition for a musical and receive a role.  They will rehearse their part under the guidance of an experienced teaching artist in an experience that is sure to be unforgettable. The class will culminate in a live zoom performance and video recording for friends and family.

Broadway Dance Party

This virtual class is for students in 1st through 5th grade. This class is sure to bring the fun! From the moves in Grease’s ‘Hand Jive” to High School Musical’s ‘We’re All in This Together’, musicals have given us some pretty iconic dance numbers. Students in this class will learn all the best moves straight from Broadway, while gaining confidence and coordination. The class will culminate in a live zoom performance and video recording to share with family and friends. 

 

Movement for Musical Theatre I

This virtual class is for students in 1st through 5th grade. Does your child love musicals but lacks confidence or experience in dance?  This class it designed to help students feel like they can tackle any dance call or simply impress their friends with their moves.  They will acquire skills and knowledge in dance through fun, interactive movement.   The class will culminate in a live zoom performance and video recording to share with family and friends.

This virtual class is for students in 6th through 12th grade. Playmakers: 10-Minute Play Festival

This virtual class is for students in 6th through 12th grade. Students will learn how to write a short play while exploring character creation, plot, conflict and theme.  Using fun activities and games, this class allows students to stretch their imaginations and deepen their self-confidence. The class will culminate in a live zoom performance and video recording of the plays by professional actors and members of our TYPE teen ensemble.

Playmakers: Choose Your Own Adventure

This virtual class is for students in 1st through 5th grade. Students will create original characters, learn the parts of a story, and write a play as an ensemble.  The students will be encouraged to write in the beloved Create-Your-Own-Adventure style and is sure to be filled with laughs and thrills! This class is designed to ignite creativity, teamwork and confidence.  The class will culminate in a live zoom performance and video recording of the play by professional actors and members of our TYPE teen ensemble.

Popstar! Level I

This virtual class is for students in 1st through 5th grade. This class features all the hits you hear on the radio every day! Students will each learn a pop solo, act as a backup dancer for other students, and learn how to pump up a crowd. The class will culminate in a live zoom performance and video recording of unique “music videos” created by the students.

Popstar! Level II

This virtual class is for students in 6th through 12th grade. This class features all the hits you hear on the radio every day! Students will each learn a pop solo, act as a backup dancer for other students, and learn how to pump up a crowd. The class will culminate in a live zoom performance and video recording of unique “music videos” created by the students.

South Tampa Night Live!

This virtual class is for students in 3rd through 8th grade. This class is all about the comedy! Students will create and rehearse original sketches while learning about improvisation, comic timing, joke-writing, and more! Students are sure to have a blast as they laugh and create together. The class will culminate in a live zoom performance and video recording of South Tampa Night Live!
